Population Density by County, US

Making an accurate count of our nation’s population was never a simple project. From the first census, the nation debated who to count, what questions to ask, and how to conduct the count. The debates over who was counted and why are reflected in the publications produced by the Census Bureau. The library’s collection of census-related print publications dates back to the count of 1880 and includes materials published every decade since. In addition to preserving important historical data on the nation’s population, these volumes document changes in graphic design, printing techniques, and enumeration technology over the centuries.
