If you received a score of 4 or 5 on an AP language or literature examination, a 6 or 7 on a higher-level IB examination, you do not need to take the Carleton placement exam (see placement exam link below), and you have completed the basic language requirement. If you would like to continue in one of these languages, you should register for courses numbering above 204.
The deadline to complete the placement test is July 15. If you received a score TBA its says to contact the dept. We will be contacting you after July 15 to update you on further instructions.

*This year (Fall, 2023), if you received a TBA on the above test and are taking:
- You will be required to take a proctored exam (Avant, PLACE) on campus. You should check the New Student Week schedule to get the time and date for the proctored exam. You may bring either your own laptop and headset, or use ours.
