Microsoft Surface tablets are currently being evaluated as laptop replacements for faculty and staff with relatively light computing needs. They are also available to be purchased using departmental or PDA funds.
More Info
Laptops are more expensive than desktop computers by a significant margin. When considering a tablet purchase, remember that Carleton strives for no more than one college-funded mobile device per person (i.e. you should not purchase an iPad with your PDA if the college has purchased a laptop for your primary computer).
Tablets, because of their small size and extreme portability, are relatively easy to steal. To keep your data secure, make sure your tablet is locked with a passcode. For instructions on how to set up a passcode on your iPad, click here: Apple Support.
