Audio and Video Conferencing Options
There are a variety of ways to connect with people for meetings on campus. You can use phone, Google Meet, or Zoom for either audio or video conferencing.
Video conferencing is an excellent communication method for those just across campus or all the way around the world. The most typical use is for a group meeting, faculty presentation, job interview, distance learning, or research collaboration. Although there are many different types of video conferencing solutions on the market today, Carleton Supports and PEPS can assist you with the following programs: Zoom and Google Meet. If you require an 800 number for audio conferencing, the college can provide you with a Zoom 800 conference line. You need to request to use this number through a Telecom TeamDynamics ticket and you need to provide us with the countries that you need the number for. There is a per minute/per user charge for using this line so we encourage you to utilize the audio, video, and toll-free number (if available in target location) capabilities of Zoom or Google Meet when possible. We need two days notice for any request and will send you directions for scheduling the call. Please provide the date, time, countries calling in, and budget code in the ticket.
Here are some basic video conferencing guidelines:
I need a short meeting with faculty and staff with less than 10 participants.
Google Hangouts Meet can be used as an easy and effective way to connect with anyone, but works especially well for connecting Carleton faculty, staff, and students. It’s an excellent “casual connect” tool for either telephone or video conferencing for up to 10 participants.
I need to schedule a meeting with people both on and off campus. The meeting will be with less than 100 people and less than 40 minutes.
Zoom Basic can be used for extended one-on-one meetings, short calls with multiple people or creating instructional videos from your computer. You can host up to 100 participants but are limited to 40 minutes per meeting.
I need to schedule a meeting with people both on and off campus. The meeting will last more than 40 minutes and there will be less than 300 participants:
Zoom Pro can be used for high-level meetings, screen recording and instructional continuity. You can have up to 300 attendees and the meeting duration limit is 24 hours.
I need to schedule an audio conference call. All participants are within the US.
If the call will be less than 40 minutes and less than 100 participants you can use Zoom Basic. Use the Audio dial in instructions
If the call will be more than 40 minutes and less than 300 participants you can use Zoom Pro. Use the Audio dial in instructions.
I need a toll free number for my audio conference call.
