Description:

This program provides a stipend towards the purchase of a laptop for students without the resources to purchase one. The current stipend is $1100 which can be used to purchase a Windows laptop or to pay for the majority of an Apple laptop. Several models are available through the Carleton vendor.

Who is eligible:

Eligibility is determined by Student Financial Aid and the Dean of Students. The current eligibility guideline is that incoming students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of about $2000 or less would qualify.

How to request assistance:

There is no application process for this stipend. Eligible students will be contacted by Information Technology Services (ITS) during the summer before they start their first year at Carleton.

Non-eligible students, including upperclass students, can contact the ITS Helpdesk for access to a laptop loaner. There are 40 laptops which are loaned to students whose machines are being repaired or who need a laptop for a few weeks (e.g. for a project).

Other assistance:

Carleton students can discuss technology expenses with their Financial Aid counselor through Carleton’s Student Financial Aid office. It is sometimes possible for students who are not eligible for the laptop stipend to be able to use financial aid allocations for technology.
