Moodle Upgrade to version 4.4

Moodle will be offline and unavailable on Thursday, December 5th, 2024 during this upgrade.

Older versions of Moodle fall out of security support over time so we push these upgrades to ensure our data in Moodle is kept safe and secure.

This upgrade will introduce some new features and improvements, including a new text editor and a new quiz question type. More information is available on our blog post about new Moodle capabilities and training and support opportunities, including a workshop on Dec 6th.

Lab maintenance and Updates

Computer labs software will be updated over the winter break. The most significant change is to Adobe Creative Cloud applications. They will be updated to Adobe Creative Cloud 2025, which was released in October.  Applications receiving minor updates include Firefox, Chrome, Zoom, R, RStudio, Final Cut Pro, Logic, Keynote, Numbers, and Pages.

Additionally, major operating systems vendors have released upgrades to their versions and are now available for faculty and staff to install.

Labs and classrooms will remain at macOS 14 and Windows 11 23H2 until summer.

macOS 15

ITS staff have completed their testing, and macOS 15 (Sequoia) is compatible with Carleton’s technological systems. ITS encourages you to upgrade to macOS Sequoia at your convenience. The instructions for upgrade are located in this ITS Knowledge Base article. Please pay special attention to the Known Issues and After You Upgrade sections.

If you are not ready to upgrade to macOS Sequoia, please run an Apple software update to apply the latest security updates to your macOS. Here are instructions on how to do so.

Windows 11 24H2

Microsoft initiated the release of the Windows 11 24H2 update in September. This update is not currently available for all computers and is not being pushed out by Carleton’s Windows Update Server at this time.

All Windows users should follow these instructions to apply the latest updates to their Windows computers and also apply updates from the device manufacturer.

Regularly installing operating system and driver updates are an important step in keeping your system up-to-date. For more information on the importance of keeping your devices updated, see this ITS Blog post.

As always, please feel free to contact the Helpdesk (x5999) or helpdesk@carleton.edu if you have any questions.
