You’re probably familiar with the “Minute to Learn It” tips, published weekly by the Gmail/Cloud Storage migration team, on getting the most out of Gmail and Google Calendar.  So far, tips have been made to address the questions that have been coming into the Project Team and to the Helpdesk, focusing on specific concerns, shortcomings, or confusing aspects of Gmail and Google Calendar. Our long-term goal, however, is to shift the focus from “problem solving” to “reimagining”: thinking about ways we can use these tools to do our jobs differently and better.

Our initial “Reimagining” tip comes from Melissa Eblen-Zayas. She shows how easy it is to add a video call to a calendar appointment. In the video below, she uses it for “virtual office hours,” allowing her to meet with one or more students without having to be in the same place as them.

Have you successfully used Gmail or Google Calendar to reimagine some aspect of your work? We would love to help share your knowledge with the rest of the campus. Contact Julie Anderson or Austin Robinson-Coolidge, and we will work with you to capture and edit your tip for publication!
