Moodle has been Carleton’s “learning management system” since 2006, supporting curricular and non-curricular online activities, within and beyond the classroom. While the application has improved as a tool quite a bit over these past 10 years, and our use of it has evolved, we’ve never seriously looked at how well it is working for us. It’s time to do that.
We want to learn two things:
- how well is Moodle working for the kinds of things we use it for, and
- what value do we place on features and functions typically provided by a learning management system.
Project Schedule
With the support of the Future Learning Technologies Group, we will begin this project directly after winter term ends. Events include:
- Mar 1 – 11th: Open discussion and Q&A sessions about the project
- Mar 22nd: Launch Faculty & Staff survey
- Mar 28th: Launch Student survey
- April – May: Focus group discussions
- June: Final report
Call for Participation
We are hoping to have high rates of participation from the students, faculty and staff who use Moodle. We will invite a representative sample of 500 students to participate in the survey, and as many as possible into the focus group discussions. All faculty and all staff who use Moodle will be invited to participate in both the online survey and focus group discussions. Please watch your inbox for invitations when the surveys become available!
