MISO, the Measuring Information Service Outcomes survey, which students, faculty, and staff have participated in every other year since 2014, is coming to campus in January of 2020. We’d like to ask everyone to participate and make your voice heard.
The MISO survey measures how our community feels about library and IT services. It addresses questions like, “What services and resources are important to people, and how well do we deliver them?” and, “How effectively do we communicate with campus communities about these services and resources?”
ITS pays particular attention to services and resources rated by respondents as high in importance, but lower in satisfaction. We sometimes conduct focus groups and administer followup surveys, to gain further clarity. We take specific actions to improve our performance, especially in those areas.
Feedback from prior years
In 2014, for example, three items fell into both the top 10 of importance and the bottom 10 of satisfaction: WiFi, Moodle, and The Hub. In response, ITS added dozens of wireless access points, reworked our Moodle deployment methodology, and customized The Hub to remove unnecessary clicks and improve the user experience. In 2016, there was a significant increase in satisfaction with The Hub.
In 2018, the lowest satisfaction among faculty was “time to resolve classroom technology issues” (3.xx out of 4). In response, ITS used a staff retirement in PEPS to recast the lead classroom support position as “Classroom Technology Manager.” The new role focuses on coordination of classroom computer hardware and software, audio-visual technology and the support efforts of various groups within ITS. Six months later, the results of a targeted survey showed that the changes had been beneficial.
As you can see, the MISO survey acts as a guide for which services to improve.
Next chance for sharing—January 2020
Look for a note from Bev Nagel in early Winter Term with a heads up that the MISO survey is coming. At the end of January, you’ll get a customized link to the survey itself. We hope that you will take the time (10-12 minutes) to complete it and look forward to hearing from you!
Note: If you’ve taken the survey before and, like many of us, chafed that the demographic section was mandatory, please note that this section is now optional. We hope this change will also reduce the time it takes to complete the survey.
