About 100 faculty and staff from Carleton and St. Olaf attended an event sponsored by Google. Two representatives from Google demonstrated and discussed a number of technologies in use at our schools and other higher education institutions. Here are 4 tools we found particularly useful, with links to more information about them:
- Forms: not only a survey tool, but also useful for creating online self-grading quizzes, sign-up sheets, and order forms.
- Explore: an integrated tool in sheets and docs that suggests useful charts, graphs, formulas, images or insights based on the content of your document. (See image at right.)
- Course Kit: a set of free tools (currently in development) that helps instructors create, collect, and review coursework. Students can submit Google files to faculty for review and grading without having to leave Moodle. Carleton is beta testing this feature. Contact Carly Born (cborn) for more information.
- Tour Creator: create virtual reality (VR) tours using your own 360° images or Google Maps Street View imagery. Tours take only about an hour to create, and you don’t need special hardware to get started. Published tours can be viewed on web browsers and embedded into websites, even without a VR viewer.
