We’ve spent much of the summer and fall term reworking how we support classrooms, focusing on three main areas: 1) preventative maintenance, 2) responsiveness, and 3) communication.
In order to try to prevent problems before they happen, PEPS staff have been taking the following actions:
- Visiting classrooms and teaching spaces on a regular basis (mostly in the evening) and running a suite of tests on the equipment, noting and reporting any anomalies for follow-up
- Tweaking how we respond when people report an issue in a class they’re teaching to have more professional staff available and to be clearer about how much we can realistically do to solve a problem during a class
- Increasing the amount of communication about reported issues and the status of rooms
The point of all these changes is to improve the experience of teaching in these rooms, as well as to make our actions clearer and more predictable.
While we’ve collected some anecdotal feedback over the course of the term, we’d really like to get a clearer sense of how our changes are affecting the teaching experience. We’ve created a short, three-question survey to collect feedback that will be sent to faculty who have been at Carleton for more than one year. We look forward to hearing your thoughts!
Upcoming Changes
Over Winter Break we will be refreshing the electronics in 15 classrooms. In each of these rooms, we will be replacing the projectors, the touch screens, and the electronics that drive the system. The changes should be mostly invisible, although the eagle-eyed among you may notice that the manufacturers’ logos on the equipment is different.
