Digital Departure for Seniors

As you transition to post-Carleton life, there are a few things you need to do to transfer or archive your digital materials. During your time at Carleton, you have created documents, presentations, posters, and more that you may wish to keep. You may be the owner of resources for an organization or committee, which you now need to transfer to someone else. And, of course, there’s likely to be a lot of email that you may (or may not) want to keep for future reference.

Update your info—future you will thank you!

Before graduating, add a personal email address to your Workday account. After July, you will no longer be able to access Workday unless you have your personal account set as the “Home (Primary)” email address in your account.

Whether you’re applying for a loan, looking at graduate school, or just trying to pay your taxes, logging into your Workday account is essential to access W-2, 1098-T, payslips, transcripts, CCCE volunteer work and more!

Update your contact information on any external accounts that use your Carleton email address. For example, if you have a social media or Amazon account that you created using your Carleton email address, you will need to update that before you lose access to your account. Here are some more examples of where you might have used your Carleton email address:

  • Bill and payment notifications
  • Graduate School communications
  • Friends and family
  • Employers
  • Healthcare providers
  • Professional societies

You can also set an automatic reply on your Carleton email alerting your contacts that your email address will be changing (this auto reply will end when your Carleton email account closes).

Keep your stuff!

After July 31st, you will no longer be able to access your Carleton email or any items saved in Google Drive, Panopto, Dropbox, Moodle, personal sites, ArcGIS, or other Carleton-affiliated accounts. But never fear! ITS has all the resources you need. If you have files or information stored in any of these locations, check out the links below to learn how to backup your files.

Pass the baton!

If you have been an active member of an organization, a college committee, or a student group during your time on campus, it is possible that you are the designated owner or administrator of a mailing list or other network resources. Before you leave Carleton, be sure to transfer ownership to your successor or another member of the group.

Remember: Student organizations whose leaders have all graduated may be considered inactive by the CSA, so if the organization is to continue, you will need to hand it off to the next generation. You will need to designate the organization’s next leader and transfer network folder and web resources. Mailing lists that have no on-campus owners will be scheduled for deletion, so make arrangements for a new owner before you depart.
