We are beginning the migration from Zimbra to Google and the move of files from Collab to Dropbox and Google Drive. We are now in a world where communications also happen on Facebook, Twitter, blogs and websites. This is an opportunity to reflect and reinvent.

The first Early Adopter group, consisting of 52 faculty, staff, and students, migrated to Gmail on April 14th, and has been providing us with extremely helpful feedback about our communication, training, and process. Although trying to plan meetings across two calendaring systems has been vexing, for the most part the transition has been smooth and uneventful.

As we move toward migrating portions of Collab to Dropbox over this summer and fall, we are having conversations with other departments and groups about how they use Collab, and drafting guidelines for what kinds of data should move to which storage option.

Web Services recently added a new service called Siteimprove to help optimize content on Carleton’s websites. Siteimprove indexes Carleton websites to identify misspellings and broken links, detect discoverability and accessibility issues, and provide a powerful query engine for finding patterns across Carleton sites. Soon we’ll launch a new feature powered by Siteimprove data: monthly email reports for Reason site maintainers including data about misspellings and broken links.
