    From the CTO

When my family went on vacation to San Francisco this summer, I thought I would be setting aside my focus on technology for a week.  But wouldn’t you know that technology is everywhere!  I suspect that many of you had similar experiences with technology this summer. Google Tips and Reimagining Communications

With everyone at Carleton migrated to Gmail, we’d like to share some tips on how to get the most out of it, new things you can do with it, and answers to common questions.  Watch for “Minute To Learn It” tips in the Carleton Weekly. In the next few weeks we’ll also be providing instructions on how you can record your own tips for things you’ve discovered that you’d like to share with the campus.

    Academic Services Update

ITS is introducing two new technologies, YuJa (for screen and voice recordings) and LabArchives, (for electronic notebooks).  Moodle has a new look and new features such as a Recycle Bin and drag-n-drop quiz question types.  And the IdeaLab has been refreshed, including the addition of a 3D printer and a VR station.  Come visit our Open House on September 21st from noon-2pm.

As returning community members already know, summer is the time that ITS updates and refreshes various aspects of the public labs and instructor stations. This year we’ve updated a number of applications, such as Flash, Adobe Reader, and Firefox, to their current versions, but the most visible change is the move to Windows 10 on all public and classroom computers.
