Seven things you should know about Carleton’s data warehouse

Seven things you should know about Carleton’s data warehouse:

  1. The data warehouse is available to anyone at Carleton who works with Carleton data.
  2. The data warehouse is designed for analytical reporting. In contrast to typical row-and-column reports, analytical reports highlight trends over time and aggregate patterns in data, and thus help us to make data-driven, strategic decisions.
  3. The data warehouse is fast. It has been optimized for analysis of large amounts of data so that you can readily explore theories, and look at results.
  4. The data warehouse draws data from other systems on campus, like Colleague, but is not the authoritative source of any data.
  5. The data warehouse will work with a variety of data manipulation tools, such as Excel, Tableau, SPSS and R.
  6. The data warehouse has a new visualization tool option available: Power BI. We currently have licenses for faculty to view data warehouse reports via Power BI. The new faculty grade reports are being delivered to faculty in this fashion.
  7. The data warehouse is something that you can get training for by contacting Richard Goerwitz at rgoerwit@carleton.edu
