RESOLVED: Major network outage on west side of Campus

16 February 2021

The failed network switch has been replaced and network service has been restored to all campus buildings.

Original Post:

We are currently experiencing a network failure for both wired and wireless networks for a number of west-side buildings including the Library, LDC, and a number of residential spaces.  Currently, it looks like the root cause is a hardware failure of a major networking component. It will take several hours to configure a replacement switch. In the meantime, students attending on-line classes should plan to use the Science Complex, Weitz, Sayles-Hill, or other academic buildings.

A fiber-optic switch, responsible for feeding the campus data network to a number of buildings, failed at around 9:20am. This affects both the wired and wireless networks. Affected buildings include: Gould Library, LDC, Scoville, Willis, Davis, Burton, Sevy, Musser, All townhouses, Hunt Cottage, Dacie Moses House, Berg House, Clader House
