The Business Office recently released a voucher enhancement to individuals across the campus with budget manager access in The Hub. Budget managers can now click on many of the vouchers entries in their budgets to pull up the associated scanned invoice in OnBase. The OnBase extension that provides this enhancement is called Doc Pop. Rather than pulling up documents using OnBase Unity or the OnBase Client, Doc Pop works by accessing documents in the OnBase Web Client, which is new to most OnBase users on campus.

The advantage that the web client brings to us is, first and foremost, that it works on both PCs and Macs, making it possible to surface documents to the entire campus.
Another advantage of the web client is that it works even over slow connections. If you are off campus and want to see invoices, you will need to be connected to Carleton’s network via a VPN, and this will introduce some extra processing overhead. For some applications this can be a problem. The OnBase web client, though, is built to handle the slower connection, thereby allowing you to access your OnBase files, even from off campus. This is something the “thick” desktop OnBase clients can’t easily provide.
The campus saw similar functionality introduced when the advisee folders were released to faculty and staff advisers. Advisee folders utilize Folder Pop, which is similar to Doc Pop. Both Doc Pop and Folder Pop utilize the OnBase web client.

With instances of both Doc Pop and Folder Pop released, we’ve now opened up a range of new opportunities for departments that use OnBase to distribute documents to the entire campus community. Be on the lookout for documents in OnBase that should be shared with others around campus, and give Russ Bauer a call if you have ideas for future projects.
