Moodle: Carleton’s New Course Management System

2 June 2006

We are pleased to announce that Carleton’s course management system selection process has come to a successful completion. The selection committee unanimously nominated Moodle. Over the summer and in the coming academic year there will be a series of workshops and other training opportunities that will focus on getting to know Moodle as well as considering effective ways of using this new tool curricularly. The first in this series of workshops will be focused on using Moodle to support the creation of learning communities (August 8-9). More information on upcoming sessions dates and times will be available at the ITS web site and in campus announcements. The selection process was informed by a thorough analysis which included: curricular experimentation in the winter term, usage surveys, a usability study, accessibility study, development community study, as well as a thoughtful and lively LTC discussion about our winter term experimentation. The recommendation came from the Academic Computing Advisory Committee joined by members of the web team, reference librarians, and the academic computing coordinators. Students, faculty, and staff contributed significantly to this selection process. We want to thank everyone who contributed to this effort. Sincerely, Clara Hardy, Chair, Academic Computing Advisory Committee Joel Cooper, Director of Information Technology Services Andrea Nixon, Associate Director for Academic Computing
