This information session will give you a first look at two new major components of Colleague, the software we use to conduct many essential business and academic functions at the college.
A few years ago, we moved Colleague to a Microsoft SQL database environment. This project, which we called the “Colleague Makeover,” brought a major update to how Colleague works behind the scenes. Our goal was to modernize our infrastructure and position ourselves better for future enhancements. With that project finished, we have turned our attention now more to the look and feel of Colleague – that is, to the elements that users experience every day.
One such element is the Hub. The Hub is a web front-end to Colleague, and is used by everyone on campus. The Hub is built on top of another technology called WebAdvisor, which the vendor, Ellucian, is currently replacing with a product they call “Self Service.” Self Service gives us more fluid and modern web interface that will make it easier give the Hub a modern look and feel. Migrating from WebAdvisor to Self Service will take a while. The beginning stages are already in process, though, and we are positioned now to move forward with several projects involving students.
Colleague UI is another interface of Colleague that is system used primarily by administrative departments. The newest release Colleague UI is version 5. UI version 5 has been modernized to look a lot like the new Self Service web interface mentioned above. The current plan is to upgrade to Colleague UI 5 this winter. More updates on this project will be sent to Colleague users.
This information session will give you first look at both of these fresh new interfaces. We’ll also discuss these projects more in-depth, and take a look at future roadmaps for them.
