For many faculty, pulling materials from one course to another Moodle course page is something you know all too well. Have you ever felt frustrated by the process, or do you find copying course material tedious? The new feature Sharing Cart plug-in feature allows for moving activities between courses quickly and precisely. For additional step-by-step information, you can follow along with the 2025 Sharing Cart Video. Follow the steps below to get started:
- Adding a sharing block in your course
- Copying course material from original course
- Pasting course material to the new course page
Adding a sharing block in your course
If you turn on editing and don’t see the Sharing Cart block on the right hand side, refer to the Article-Moodle:Sharing Cart for step by step instructions to setup.
- Once added, a little shopping basket icon will appear next to your activities. Click this icon to copy a version of an activity into your cart.

Copying course materiel from original course
- The copy should now be in your cart list. (Note: copy does not include any student work of any kind, just the settings and the material itself).
- Once it copies you will see that it copies into your cart and it shows under your items list on the right hand side.
- Select the course you want to add and turn editing on. Make sure this course also has the Sharing Cart block.
Pasting course material to the new course page
- From here, you will copy the material. Then choose where to place it. (Note: Copy will contain original settings that it had in the previous version of the course).
- You can copy over entire sections. To copy a full section, use the sharing cart icon under the top of the section itself. Here you can choose from the section from the pull down menu that you wish to copy over.
Note: If this method is used to share things with another professor, you must have teacher/editing rights on both courses. It cannot be shared with other instructors unless enrolled as a teacher.
