Mac OS’s recent update Sequoia 15.2 has added new functionality when connecting to an external display, like a projection screen or monitor. When you update your Mac to Sequoia 15.2 , and please do, you may notice an icon in your tray (upper right corner of your screen) that looks like this:

This is the icon for ‘screen mirroring,’ and it is still available in the control center.

The access to screen mirroring (sometimes called ‘screen share’) and display settings has moved to a more obvious place and shows up in bright blue when you are projecting. It may stay in your tray in simple white when you are not projecting.

This new location will make displaying your screen or changing what you are displaying in classrooms and other places more straightforward than it was previously.
Apple also added a choice that wasn’t as easily available: now, if you connect to a display via an HDMI cable or wirelessly over AirMedia you may receive a pop-up asking how you want the display to work. Your choices will be ‘Entire Screen’ (mirrored), ‘Extended Display’, or you can choose to share a specific window.

Once you are projecting your screen, you may change your choice by selecting one of the options that will appear at the bottom of the screen mirroring drop-down. Choose ‘Change’ and the choice box above will appear; choose ‘Stop Extending’ and you will no longer be projecting your screen.
