We talk a lot about Curricular Practical Training (CPT) in International Student Life but we thought it would be fun to share an experience with international students about what CPT could look like. This year, Christine Gichimu took the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training through Center for Community and Civic Engagement (CCCE) to gain practical experience as a pre-med student. As a Biology major on the pre-med track, Christine was able to work in a retirement community as a CNA, helping patients feel more comfortable, get some body movement, and have proper nutrition and hydration. To apply her experiences academically, Christine connected her work experience to Biology by researching the muscle loss that occurs as one gets older, particularly for patients with Type 2 diabetes.
