On October 26, 2018, Carleton College announced the launch of Every Carl for Carleton, a $400 million comprehensive campaign—the most ambitious in Carleton’s history.
-
For a century and a half, Carls have applied their liberal arts education to working in a wide variety of fields, problem-solving and innovating, and pursuing meaningful lives. Today the world needs Carls more than ever.
-
Leadership giving by trustees and other early donors has given the Every Carl for Carleton campaign a flying start, with more than $300 million raised toward the $400 million goal.
-
Attracting talented, diverse, engaged students takes resources. So does our pledge to meet their full demonstrated financial need. Carleton will expand its annual financial aid budget to continue enrolling outstanding new Carls from a wide range of backgrounds.
-
To help students like Zach McCrary ’21, Trace McCreary ’89 doubled his donations using the 1866 Scholarship Match.
-
Carleton’s gifted scholars, scientists, artists, and researchers deserve facilities that reflect the advances in their respective fields. Truly outstanding teaching also requires career-long support for our faculty members, fostering innovation and collaboration in the classroom and beyond.
-
Empowering students to take ownership of their research is a guiding influence of biology professor Rika Anderson’s summer lab mentorship. Her student Elaina Thomas ’18 is heading to Lost City Hydrothermal Field aboard a research vessel called Atlantis.
-
Internships, externships, research, and community-based learning give our students valuable perspective and open avenues to future careers. We want all students to have access to these learning opportunities regardless of financial status. Robust support for the Career Center, advising, experiential learning off campus, and faculty-student research helps all students explore their possible futures throughout their four years at Carleton.
-
Many students can’t afford to take unpaid internships. Carleton helps bridge the opportunity gap for students like Minda Liu ’18, one of 125 students who received internship funding from the Career Center in 2017.
-
Even as we build for the future, we must support Carleton’s most pressing needs today. Every year the annual fund provides a critical 6 percent of the college’s operating budget which helps make Carleton distinctively Carleton. The annual fund represents a collective sense of ownership and responsibility for Carleton among our community of alumni, parents, and friends.
-
Karen Schilling ’78, the Alumni Annual Fund’s new board chair, is invigorated, not intimidated, by the fund’s ambitious campaign goals.
-
Before Every Carl for Carleton, there was “every trustee for Carleton.”
-
You can support Carleton in three ways: through annual fund gifts, capital and endowment gifts, and planned gifts.
A $400 million campaign sets a bold course for the college’s future
