Funding for Faculty

17 December 2015

ClassroomAttracting, retaining, and supporting outstanding professors takes more than classrooms and books. Donors have established a number of special funds for faculty development:

  • An endowment created by Robert A. Roth ’69 supports individual course releases for faculty who are in residence and teaching, or provides support for major expenses of faculty development projects (e.g., travel or materials).
  • The Headley Faculty Travel Fund, established by longtime education and psychology professor Leal Headley, from the Class of 1907, supports faculty travel for professional development purposes.
  • A generous endowment gift by Leo Lum ’69 has been named for Professor Emeritus Bardwell L. Smith, a former dean of the college and a mentor to Lum. Grants to faculty members selected as Smith Fellows may be used to support any faculty development activity.
  • Faculty members who need additional time for research or curricular projects can apply for one course release or one term from the Jack W. Eugster ’67 Endowed Faculty Development Program.
