Carleton celebrates the inauguration of our 12th president: October 15–16, 2021


Alison R. Byerly became the 12th president of Carleton College on August 1, 2021. She arrived at Carleton after eight years as president of Lafayette College, a small, selective liberal arts college in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Prior to becoming president at Lafayette, Byerly was provost and executive vice president at Middlebury College. During her tenure on Middlebury’s faculty, she served as a visiting scholar at MIT, Stanford, and Oxford. She is the author of two scholarly books, and has written and spoken extensively on the role of technology in higher education.
