Payton MacDonald and Leah Ayer, both well known as organizers of Climate Disaster Relief, visited Carleton during Climate Action Week. The climate crisis will mostly affect those from marginalized backgrounds; therefore, mutual aid is an important way for communities to build networks of support that are flexible, localized, and based on solidarity and collective liberation rather than charity.
The objective of their visit was to expand current knowledge on the concept of Mutual Aid and how the community at Carleton College can fortify their understanding. Funds were used to help pay for the speakers’ honoraria.
