The Humanities Center and Ethical Inquiry at Carleton are hiring Student Program Coordinators to work the equivalent of 4 to 5 hours per week for the 2023-24 academic year. The Student Program Coordinators will manage the Humanities Fellows and also work together to develop, organize and put on one to two events per term for the community related to humanistic or ethical inquiry. This programming will not include visiting speakers, but instead other kinds of activities that will engage the student body (and possibly faculty and staff) in discussion or activities of humanistic or ethical concern. Just what this programming is will be up to the Student Program Coordinators in consultation with Baird Jarman and Daniel Groll.
SPCs will develop, organize and put on two events per term for the community related to humanistic or ethical inquiry. This will require being in regular and reliable contact with the other student coordinators, Mary Drew, Baird Jarman and Daniel Groll. In addition to conceiving of the programming, the student coordinators will need to handle logistical details (booking rooms, making posters, advertising etc).
The absolute, most important “skill” needed for this job is reliability. We are looking for students that respond efficiently and effectively to email, are well-organized and can be counted on to complete tasks in a timely manner. We want students who are self-directed and who will not be incommunicado when the term gets busy. Heed the words inscribed at the entrance to the the oracle at Delphi: γνῶθι σαυτόν (Know thyself!)
