The greatest thing about the humanities is that for an essentially limitless topic, they are by definition encompassed by one word: human (it’s in the name, after all). People – the things they do, why they do them – every element of the human experience fascinates me, and so do, by extension, the humanities.

By definition, the humanities cannot be fit neatly in a box, which makes them endlessly engaging.  I love chasing new ideas and experiences to broaden my perspective on the world, while maintaining a diverse set of personal interests including architecture history, iano and drawing.

Through the humanities, I can connect with my creative side. Reading passages from numerous time periods and places inspires my projects and writing. The humanities create an environment that not only harnesses my own creativity but also the creativity of my peers. I love hearing others’ interpretations of what we are studying and utilizing their opinions to expand my own.

For me, the humanities don’t simply bridge together other studies, but rather, as in the name, are omnipresent to every human pursuit, guiding the way we pursue, apply, understand, and discover the variables of our environment we would otherwise label as “concrete”. From mathematics to aeronautics, the humanities are everywhere — guiding through art, narrative, and media — defining unavoidabilities like our positionality.

There is not simply one thing that I like about humanities. I like the diverse subjects and study areas that allow anyone to find something interesting. The humanities bring people together in more ways than one and it harbors an amazing community.

I am excited to see what the humanities have to offer! In the last year I’ve gotten to interact with history and religion in ways I never thought I would, and I am curious to find other ways of thinking, collaborating, and viewing the world through the humanities.

The interdisciplinary and wide-reaching sprawl of subjects that reside within the humanities deeply excite me as they offer chances to explore what ‘humanity’ means through different lenses.  Through the humanities, we in the present day may learn from and connect to the communities that predate us.

Something I find exciting about the humanities is how the discipline has taught me to think abstractly and in new ways, giving me the confidence and skills to push myself academically inside and outside the field. I am looking forward to leaning more into the humanities and expanding upon this.

I’m fascinated by the humanities because they show how people have thought and expressed themselves throughout history and across cultures. I think the humanities contain a lot of potential in understanding our shared human experiences and bringing people together through our stories and perspectives.

I’m excited to get to know my fellow humanities scholars and what experiences drive them to the subjects they’re pursuing in the future! Similarly, I’m excited about exploring the humanities further because of the convergence of logic, meaning, and emotion in subjects such as philosophy and political science.
