This lecture will place #BlackLivesMatter in the context of the Long Black Freedom Movement, Black Power, and Black student activism. The talk will highlight how the rise in support for #BlackLivesMatter has given way to a backlash, analyze similarities and differences between earlier Black freedom activism and current strategies, and illustrate legacies and current trends in the ongoing Black Freedom Struggle.
