Susannah Ottaway, Laird Bell Professor of History, presented a paper titled, “Failure to Reform: The Lessons of Early Efforts to Legislate on Workhouses,” and chaired a session on “Charity and Inequality” at the European Social Science History Conference in Leiden, The Netherlands, on March 27. She has also begun a five-year term as the book review editor (pre-1800) for the Journal of British Studies.
