Hello Everyone,
Amalia Pappa ’25 and Joella Shearer ’26 are inviting you to help charter Women+ Interested in Thinking Critically about History (otherwise known as WITCH)!!! General description:
Purpose: The purpose of WITCH is to provide a space for women and gender minorities interested in history to gather and discuss their experiences in the field. Throughout the history of the field, the voices of gender minorities have been marginalized both from the historical record and historical study; we aim to counter this. This space is less focused on education and instead focused on community building among gender minorities affiliated with the History Department.
Programming: We will host weekly meetings in which members can discuss their experiences in and around the History Department and which will serve as community-building events. We will also invite Carleton professors and outside scholars to give talks on women and gender minorities’ history, as well as on pathways to being a professional historian. This will encompass a pre-professional element to the group which will provide resources on entering professional historical spaces as gender minorities. Finally, during winter term, WITCH will host comps working spaces providing comfortable opportunities for gender minorities to work on and discuss their comps in a supportive environment.
WITCH is trying to get chartered and needs evidence of support! Please fill out THIS FORM.
All the best,
Hope Yu & Amalia Pappa & Joella Shearer
