The Arboretum Archiving Assistant supports the work of the Arboretum by helping to research Arboretum History and develop the digital archive of Arboretum documents. A special focus of the work in 2024/25 will be working with historical documents and information that support writing a history of the Arboretum to be published to coincide with our 100th anniversary in 2026/27.
Working with the Arboretum Director, archive and library staff, and an outside author, the Archiving Assistant processes relevant documents from the Carleton Archives, the Northfield Historical Society, the Rice County Historical Society, etc., for the digital collection.
Work includes scanning materials, writing abstracts, compiling metadata and entering all in the database. Additional tasks include contacting authors for permission to post the documents and managing the permissions database.
Successful candidate will have good attention to detail, excellent writing skills, the ability to manage several projects simultaneously and an interest in supporting the work of the Arboretum.
Applicants must be full-time students during Fall term 2024; not available to graduating seniors. 8-10 hours are available.
