Description: Based in Atlanta, Freedom University is an underground freedom school that provides free college-level classes, college application assistance, and movement leadership training for undocumented youth banned from equal access to public higher education in Georgia. Since 2018, 50% Freedom University students who have applied to college have earned a full scholarship to college. Through coalition-building with documented students, educators, and community partners, Freedom University has helped implement fair admissions and financial aid policies for undocumented students at private colleges across the country. In this presentation and community dialogue at Carleton College, Freedom University staff and students will share their personal stories of what it is like to teach and learn in the one true sanctuary campus in the world where every student is undocumented. In recognition of the 10th anniversary of Georgia's discriminatory policies and the 20th anniversary of the failure of the DREAM Act, Freedom University will lead a conversation on how we can work collectively to end modern segregation in higher education, better support undocumented students in college and beyond, and advance their full spectrum of human rights.
