What is AOD Coaching?
Alcohol and other drug (AOD) Coaching is a private, one-on-one program offered free to all Carleton students who want to explore their alcohol, cannabis, or drug use. Coaching is directed by the student’s interests, and is focused on helping a student determine what role they would like alcohol or drug use to play in their life. If there are changes students want to make, we can also offer resources.
Coaching appointments involve one 45-60 minute session with a staff member in the Office of Health Promotion. Some students may participate because they would like to better understand how alcohol or other drug use is impacting their life, while others may pursue coaching to fulfill a requirement as a result of a policy violation. Other students might participate to figure out whether moderation or abstaining makes sense for them as they work to meet their personal and professional goals.
What can I expect during a coaching session?
During your coaching session, you will meet with your facilitator (a staff member of the Office of Health Promotion) to discuss your alcohol and/or other drug use and how it plays into your life. During your session, you will also complete a comprehensive online survey about your experiences that takes approximately 10 minutes and you will go over your responses to this assessment with your facilitator.
Is there a cost for AOD Coaching?
There is no financial cost.
Will anyone know if I’ve attended coaching?
Information discussed during a session will not be shared. All information from a coaching session is private. The only situations in which privacy cannot be upheld are if: (1) if a student indicates harm to self or others, or (2) the student shares information related to sexual misconduct. If you were required to complete a meeting as a result of a policy violation, we will let the person who assigned you to the meeting that you completed your obligations, but we will not share any information with them regarding what we discussed during the meeting.
