Academic Regulations & Procedures
Change of Course Level
A student may use the Drop/Add procedure to shift to a more or less advanced course in sequential classes. Examples of these sequenced courses include: courses into which a student’s initial level is determined by a placement test; a course simultaneously offered at multiple levels with different course numbers (with differing assignments at each level); or courses where one is explicitly listed as an advanced version of the same topic as the other. As usual, students must satisfy the prerequisites of the course in which they wish to enroll. These changes may be made through midterm without a notation on the academic record and without petitioning the Academic Standing Committee (ASC). When decisions to change course level are made after the drop/add deadline, approval from both instructors and the academic adviser needs to be communicated to the Registrar’s Office.
