Academic Regulations & Procedures
Declaration of Major or Minor
Early in the sixth term of enrollment, but not before that term, students must declare an academic area as their major field or they will not be allowed to register for the seventh term. Students wishing to change their major during the junior or senior year can do so by obtaining the approval of the chair or director of the new department/program and following the process described by the Registrar’s Office. Students who are planning a special major are advised to petition the Academic Standing Committee (ASC) no earlier than their fifth term and no later than midterm of their sixth term of enrollment.
Similarly, a student can declare a minor beginning in the sixth term of enrollment by following the declaration process described by the Registrar’s Office. Declarations of minors in the sophomore or junior year are encouraged; starting in the student’s 10th term, a student declaring a minor must submit to the minor coordinator a term-by-term schedule showing their plan for the successful completion of the minor. All minor declarations require the approval of the minor coordinator. A student can drop a minor at any time by following the process described by the Registrar’s Office. Minors that have not been completed by graduation will not appear on the student’s final transcript.
