NSF Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) program

11 December 2019

The National Science Foundation’s Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) offers NSF’s most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization.

Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research. NSF encourages submission of CAREER proposals from early-career faculty at all CAREER-eligible organizations. The CAREER program embodies NSF’s commitment to encourage faculty and academic institutions to value and support the integration of research and education. Successful Principal Investigators will propose creative, effective research and education plans, developed within the context of the mission, goals, and resources of their organizations, while building a firm foundation for a lifetime of contributions to research, education, and their integration.

A CAREER award, including indirect costs, is expected to total a minimum of $400,000 for a 5-year project; some directorates have a higher required minimum.

Proposals for projects that will begin in early 2021 are due by Monday, July 27, 2020.

Corporate & Foundation Relations will be happy to assist any prospective applicant for a CAREER grant.
