Carleton College has received a grant from the State of Minnesota to assist students with emergency housing needs during academic breaks. The Minnesota Office of Higher Education grant, led by Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students Carolyn Livingston and her staff, is projected to help more than 200 students address financial emergencies such as break housing, transportation, and medical bills.
According to the state, the objective of the Emergency Assistance for Postsecondary Students program is to “eliminate immediate barriers that could result in a low-income student not completing their term or program due to issues related to poverty, while increasing students’ resiliency and self-efficacy as individuals.” Students who are Pell-eligible (or international students with equivalent need) can contact the Dean of Students office for more information.
This grant is the second EAPS grant that Carleton has received. Like the first grant, this award will complement Carleton’s own resources for emergency support of students.
