The National Science Foundation awarded Nelson Christensen (Physics & Astronomy) a $140,000 grant to continue his work with the Laser Interferometric Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO), a collaborative project involving numerous institutions and researchers around the world. Designed to search for gravitational radiation, the LIGO project also generates a wealth of astrophysical data. Working with Prof. Christensen will be a number of Carleton undergraduate researchers with interests in astronomy, physics, statistics, and mathematics.
