Matt Whited, Professor of Chemistry, has been awarded an Undergraduate Research grant from the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Petroleum Research Fund for his work developing scaffolds for cooperative small molecule activation using systems with metal-tetrylene bonds. Work supported by this grant will build on the Whited group’s previous success with silicon systems to develop new strategies for sustainable catalysis using earth-abundant and non-toxic metals. This grant will support six undergraduate research partners in Professor Whited’s lab over three summers, in addition to supporting their supplies and student travel to an ACS national meeting.
