Kaz Skubi, assistant professor of chemistry, has received an Undergraduate New Investigator (UNI) award from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund (ACS PRF). Prof. Skubi’s two-year research project, “Development of Regioselective Strategies for Photoredox-Promoted Radical Conjugate Additions,” will focus on organic radical reactions, which are often complementary to two-electron approaches but have many unresolved questions about their controlling factors. During the project, Prof. Skubi and five undergraduate student research partners will investigate radical conjugate addition reactions, explore how the structure of the radical and the acceptor affect selectivity, and develop new methods for controlling these processes.
