Julia Strand, Associate Professor of Psychology, has received a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) (#R15DC018114) for her project, “Listening effort and audiovisual speech by L1 (“native”) and LX (“nonnative”) English speakers.” The three-year grant builds on Prof. Strand’s previous NIH-supported work and will assess whether and how the listening effort associated with processing audiovisual speech differs for individuals whose first language is English and individuals whose first language is not English. Prof. Strand’s grant includes support for undergraduate student researchers and an educational associate in each year of the project.
