An award from the Minnesota Department of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will enable Carleton’s Student Health and Counseling clinic to offer on-campus HIV testing.

According to Maggie Prunty, Nurse Practitioner and Infectious Disease Lead, rapid HIV testing supplies are too costly to keep on campus normally. SHAC typically redirects student HIV tests to clinics off-campus, but the prospect of tests appearing on their parents’ health insurance billing deters some students from seeking testing. Funding from MDH and DHHS will allow SHAC to offer free on-campus testing for three years in its clinic, in addition to annual mass-testing opportunities.

Carleton’s Early Intervention Services grant of $30,999 from the MN Department of Health was made possible by a federal DHHS “HIV Care Formula Grant.” Maggie Prunty serves as Program Manager.
