MurphyKate Montee, Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics, has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant from the Launching Early-Career Academic Pathways in the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (LEAPS-MPS) for her project “Cubulation and Property (T) in Random Groups.”

Julia Strand, Associate Professor of Psychology, has received a National Institutes of Health Academic Research Enhancement Award for her project, “Listening effort and audiovisual speech by L1 (“native”) and LX (“nonnative”) English speakers.”

Rafe Jones, Associate Professor of Mathematics, has been awarded an inaugural American Mathematical Society-Simons Research Enhancement Grant for Primarily Undergraduate Institution Faculty.

Carleton has received a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society to fund research on the history of the Cowling Arboretum, according to Nancy Braker, Puzak Family Director of the arboretum.

Ross Elfline, Associate Professor of Art History, has been named an ACM Mellon Academic Leadership Fellow by the Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM).

Sara Cluggish, Mary Hulings Rice Director and Curator of the Perlman Teaching Museum, and MurphyKate Montee, Clare Booth Luce Assistant Professor of Mathematics, have received a Curatorial Research Fellowship from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to support research for an exhibition that will combine a decolonized perspective on mathematics with contemporary artistic practice.

Annette Nierobisz, Professor of Sociology, has received a Franklin Research Grant from the American Philosophical Society (APS) for work toward completing her co-authored book, American Idle: Late Career Job Loss in a Neoliberal Era.

Chloé Fandel, Assistant Professor of Geology, has received a grant from the National Cave and Karst Research Institute (NCKRI) in support of her project, titled, “Developing open-source tools to simulate reactive and non-reactive contaminant transport in karst aquifers.”

Austin Mason, Director of Digital Arts & Humanities and Lecturer in History, has been awarded a Digital Humanities Advancement Grant (HAA-290378-23) from the National Endowment for the Humanities for “The Virtual Viking Longship Project: A Study in the Future of Liberal Arts Teaching and Research,” which he will co-direct with colleagues from Grinnell College.
