Cam Davidson receives NSF grant for collaborative geology project in Alaska

26 July 2017

Cam Davidson, Professor of Geology, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Tectonics grant (#1727991) for a collaborative four-year project with John Garver at Union College. Their project “Collaborative Research: RUI: TranslCam Davidsonation and Accretion of the Yakutat Microplate and Prince William Terrane, Alaska” will further their study of the geology of southern Alaska, and involves training of ~25 undergraduate students. Drawn from Carleton, Union, and other liberal arts colleges participating in the Keck Geology Consortium, the students will work with Davidson and Garver in the field in Alaska as well in the lab at Carleton and Union. In addition, the project entails public education efforts at the Kenai Fjords National Park and the Tongass National Forest about the geological evolution of these areas. This project continues work begun by Davidson and Garver with a previous NSF grant (Tectonics award ID #111655) and other support.Davidson fieldwork (08 03 2017)
