CARES, CRRSAA, and ARP Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Reporting
Carleton has received three grants from the U.S. Department of Education for pandemic expenses.
In May 2020, the college received $1,168,048 as part of the HEERF program within the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. Of this, $504,200 was disbursed to around 700 students as emergency grants in June 2020. About $80,000 was retained by the Dean of Students for distribution as additional emergency grants during the 2020-2021 academic year. The rest of the CARES funding — $584,024 — was used to relieve pandemic-related expenses incurred by the college.
In January 2021, the college received $1,699,739 as part of the HEERF II program within the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA). Of this, $636,700 (a combination of CRRSAA funds and the remaining CARES funds) was disbursed as grants to around 800 students in February 2021. A portion was retained by the Dean of Students for distribution as additional student grants over the rest of 2021. As with CARES, the rest of the CRRSAA funding — about $1 million — was used to relieve pandemic-related expenses incurred by the college.
In May 2021, the college received $3,034,280 as part of the HEERF III program within the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act. Of this, $1,517,450 was disbursed as grants to around 1,050 students in June 2021. As with CARES and CRRSAA, the remainder of the ARP funds — along with the remaining institutional portion of the CRRSAA funds — will be used to relieve pandemic-related expenses incurred by the college.
