Asuka Sango, Associate Professor of Religion and Director of Asian Studies, organized two transdisciplinary workshops on premodern Japanese religions with the support of a grant from the Japan Foundation, New York. The online workshops were held in January and February, and participants included professors, independent researchers, graduate students, and curators from Japan, Europe, and North America. Presentations and discussions focused on the evolution of Prince Shōtoku cults in medieval Japan, emphasizing chihō (local contexts). Additional support was provided by the Dean of the College Office and the University of Oregon Sponenburgh Lecture Fund.
