Any student films created in the 2015-2016 school year may be submitted. Submissions from Spring term 2015 will also be considered. If one student is responsible for the entirety of one film, he/she/they is responsible for completing the registration form and all further communication with the coordinators of the event, the Student Activities Programming Board (SAPB). If more than one student assisted in filmmaking, the team must designate a captain who will complete the registration form and be the point person. Faculty, alums, community members, and staff are welcome to be on a team; however, they cannot be a captain. Filmmakers must register by Monday, February 8, 2016, and turn in their films by Wednesday, February 17, 2016. For filmmakers who haven’t started their projects, filmmaking may begin at any time and may continue up until the final submission deadline. For those who have already completed a film in the 2015-2016 school year, filmmaking must have started on or after April 1, 2015. 

Film Length

All films must be no longer than Ten minutes, with an additional 30 seconds allotted for credits.

Content and Editing

  1. Photo Content
    Photo stills, whether originally digital or analog, are acceptable and may constitute up to 100% of the film.
  2. Movie Content
    Outside film clips are allowed if the content is either free of copyright or falls under fair-use provisions.
  3. Editing
    You may use any method you wish from in-camera editing to high-end digital video workstations. Make sure to constantly save your film to an external hard drive.
  4. Decency
    Golden Schillers reserve the right to disqualify a film if it does not meet reasonable decency standards. Basically, refrain from including nudity or hate speech. If either are essential to your project, get creative and work around it.

Digital Video cameras are available from the PEPS department. Check out times are regular office hours (Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.).  Use this online web form to request and reserve equipment.

The film submission deadline for the 2016 Golden Schillers Film Festival is Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 11:59 P.M. to the “Golden Schiller” Collab folder. Each team captain will have a Golden Schiller folder to save their FINALIZED video by the submission deadline.

Submission Rules

Each team can only submit one movie. All films must be submitted digitally to the server. Information about how to do this will be sent to all team captains.

Judging Criteria

Judging criteria will be developed by the judges and will focus on, but is not limited to, overall production, creativity, originality, technical merit, editing, direction, acting and concept.
