Thanks to our high standards for teaching and learning and our ability to attract top students, for decades the College has been recognized as one of the top liberal arts colleges nationwide. The extraordinary breadth and depth of the academic program, combined with the deep community felt by students, faculty and staff, combine to create an educational experience that lasts a lifetime.

No matter where you direct your support as a member of the Joseph Lee Heywood Society, you join with 2,430 other alumni, parents, and friends of Carleton to preserve that breadth and depth for generations to come. Your generosity represents a special measure of confidence that our reputation for educational excellence will endure.

    Many thanks!

Support from Heywood members enhances all aspects of Carleton, including research. For this year’s special Heywood Society presentation, assistant professor of geology Dan Maxbauer discusses the technique he developed at Carleton to remove carbon from the atmosphere by utilizing neighboring agricultural land. Check out the video to hear from professor Maxbauer and several of his students.

Something came full circle for Paul Epton ’74 as he returned to campus in 2022 to begin planning his 50th Reunion. Just off the Bald Spot were the remnants of the Music and Drama Center— recently demolished after the performing arts had moved to a new home—a building that had officially opened during his first year at Carleton, and one he spent many hours in, nurturing a newfound passion.

“Carleton meant so much to me and set my life in a direction it wouldn’t have otherwise taken,” Paul says. “I attach a great deal of importance to Carleton, and that’s why I’ve made a significant legacy provision for Carleton. This is one more way I can give back.”
