Celebrating, empowering, and mentoring through experiential learning

The Multicultural Alumni Network (MCAN) Fellows Program (formerly MCAN Scholars) has been helping multicultural Carleton students pursue experiential learning opportunities since 2007. MCAN Fellows provides financial support for students undertaking internships, research experiences, or other field-based opportunities in fields that offer no compensation or compensation lower than the pro-rated equivalent of entry-level salary.  The intent is to award successful applicants with supplemental grants sufficient to cover expenses and, to the extent possible, lost earnings necessary for any required portion of tuition and other costs needed to attend Carleton the coming academic year.

The MCAN Fellows Program remains one of the MCAN Board’s highest priorities. Past recipients explain that support from alumni was crucial in providing the networks and job experience necessary to secure first jobs after graduation; that the experiences crystalized their interests; and the support helped them effectively navigate their senior year at Carleton.  These opportunities help students grow, mature, and prepare for life after Carleton.

Eligibility is limited to students of color holding sophomore or junior class standing, as certified by the College Registrar.

Gifts supporting MCAN Fellows receive Alumni Annual Fund class recognition and credit.

More about MCAN

Carleton’s Multicultural Alumni Network (MCAN) is a volunteer-based alumni organization that exists to broaden and support the College’s overall educational, admissions, career, and fundraising programs, particularly as these programs relate to the enrichment of its students and alumni of color. Allies to these endeavors are welcomed.

Prior to MCAN Fellows, gifts to MCAN supported the Fly-Back Program.
